One discipline runs the product: explain the heat, never sell it and never sneer at it.
1. Mission
We treat collective attention as a story worth investigating. The goal is to explain what lit the fire, what is genuinely solid, what is air, and what observable fact would change the read.
2. Sourcing and verification
- Prefer primary documents, filings, direct data, transcripts, public records, and on-the-record sources.
- Identify sources when practical so readers can inspect the evidence.
- Distinguish reported fact, estimate, analysis, opinion, and illustration.
- Seek context and corroboration for consequential claims.
3. Neither pump nor sneer
Popularity is not proof of value, and skepticism is not proof of intelligence. We aim to steel-man what is real without laundering promotional claims, and identify weak assumptions without dismissing genuine innovation.
4. Artificial intelligence
AI-assisted tools may support research organization, transcription, comparison, summarization, editing, coding, design, or accessibility. Material factual claims should be checked against reliable sources. AI must not fabricate quotations, sources, interviews, firsthand observation, or certainty. Human editors remain responsible for published framing, accuracy, fairness, and disclosure. Material synthetic media should be labeled when a reasonable reader could mistake it for documentary reality.
5. Corrections and updates
Material factual errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. Meaningful new evidence may warrant an update or a revised read. Send a specific concern and supporting evidence to nohype@thisishypemachine.com.
6. Independence and conflicts
Editorial conclusions should not be purchased. Material interests, gifts, sponsorships, or other conflicts that could reasonably alter a reader’s judgment should be disclosed. Paid content must be clearly labeled.
